President & CEO Abdul Aziz and Ufone’s brand ambassador Wasim Akram graced the occasion as chief guests.
The Ufone Cricket League spanned over one and half month comprising of 64 teams with 14 Ufone employees per team. The victorious teams from all four regions made it to the semi-finals that comprised URock, South Strikers, North Titan and Central Wolves.
Electing to bat first, South Strikers posted a total of 79 runs with the loss of two wickets and gave a target of 80 runs to North Titans. Mubeen Ahmad from South Strikers made 33 runs whereas Mohsin Afridi from North Titans bagged two valuable wickets. In reply North Titans reached the target with its aggressive batting and completed the required target in just 5.4 over with the loss of two wickets. Adil Asghar, was declared the man of the match for his outstanding effort with bat as he scored 25 runs of nine balls.
Prior to the commencement of the final an exhibition match was played between Budget 11 which was captained by President & CEO Ufone Abdul Aziz and EMT11 captained by Chief Commercial Officer Ufone Salman Wassay.
Cricket legend Wasim Akram also participated and played an important role for both teams. Wasim Akram batted and bowled one over each for both sides which had the crowds roaring with excitement. He was greeted with a standing ovation from the crowd which was thoroughly entertained with his exhilarating performance as he launched the ball out of the ground on several occasions.
After the conclusion of the final, President & CEO Ufone Abdul Aziz and Wasim Akram distributed trophies and prizes among players of winning and runners up teams. Every player of the winning and runners up teams received a Blackberry handset each. Whereas the third and fourth runners up team members were each given Horizon smartphones along with trophies.
Addressing the audience Wasim Akram said he has played cricket almost after four years. He said he was extremely happy as he came here and got an opportunity to watch good cricket at this level. He said he is happy that Ufone is playing its role in patronizing talent and he is proud of being the member of Ufone team.
