Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to present draft of the Cyber Law within days

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered a ban on hate-graffiti as well as the use of loud speakers for hate speech. Taking note of the negative role played by the social media during the tragic incident, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to present draft of the Cyber Law within days.

During a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the police and administration to take immediate action against the use of wall chalking and loud speakers for spreading hate speech.

The prime minister termed the Rawalpindi tragedy as a result of the negligence and incompetence of police and administration. “The criminal silence of the police and administration will not be tolerated.”

Taking note of the negative role played by the social media during the tragic incident, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to present draft of the Cyber Law within days.

The meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Information Minister Pervez Rasheed, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam, Punjab Home Secretary and other officials.

During the meeting, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Khan Baig gave a detailed briefing over the Rawalpindi incident. Admitting failure of the local police authorities, the IGP told the meeting that the Rawalpindi incident resulted in 11 causalities and injuries to 56 people. He said that all deaths resulted due to the use of firearms and refuted claims from some quarters about missing persons in the tragic incident.

The Inspector General informed the meeting that nine perpetrators involved in this incident, had been apprehended after their identification with the aid of video footage obtained from media organizations.
