ISLAMABAD ( ABRAR MUSTAFA)
There was high level meeting in Pakistan Telecom Authority regarding the revised Information Memorandum and the upcoming auction in April. The meeting saw representation from all five major telecom companies of Pakistan. However the meeting lacked any newcomer.
Reports from the telecom sector have pointed to two new entrants, Saudi Telecom Company and Turk Telecom Company are interested in investing in Pakistan. But this high level meeting saw no one from these companies. Both these companies have held meetings on various levels with telecom companies and also with government officials to evaluate investment opportunities in the country.
These companies were missing today in this high profile meeting which points to their seriousness for involvement in the country’s telecommunication sector.
Press release from Telecom authority reveled that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held an information session for the prospective bidders of next generation spectrum auction here in Islamabad today. Chairman PTA, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, Member (Finance) Mr. Tariq Sultan, representatives from Value Partners Management Consulting, senior officers of mobile operators and PTA attended the session.
Representatives of Value Partners briefed the participants about different aspects of upcoming auction process and arrangements for it being made by PTA. The consultation session provided professional analysis on the whole bidding process as per PTA’s Information Memorandum (IM) and for the successful completion of auction in a transparent manner.
The bidders showed keen interest in the upcoming spectrum auction for next generation mobile services in Pakistan.
