Mobile service resume in Red Zone Islamabad

The Federal Interior Ministry has directed the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) to resume the cellular services in the Red Zone area of Islamabad, geo News reported on Thursday.

In the backdrop of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s Azadi March on Independence Day today, the Interior Ministry had ordered the PTA to shut mobile phone and wireless internet services in Red Zone area for an indefinite period, to avoid any untoward incident and security threats during the long march.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan has directed the PTA to restore mobile phone services in the Red Zone area that includes Parliament House, Prime Minister office, Supreme Court, Secretariat, Presidency, Judicial Colony, Serena Chowk, Embassy Road, and Marriot Hotel.

Earlier  On directions of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, cellular mobile operators shut down their networks in Red Zone. A notice sent to mobile companies said them to remain prepared for suspension of services in other parts of the capital as well.

Currently the span of service closure starts from Pakistan Secretariat in G5, President House, Parliaments, Prime Minister House, Diplomatic Enclave, Bari Imam and surrounding regions, i.e. area starting from Margalla Road to Kashmir Chowk & China Chowk till Quaid-e-Azam University.

Notice from PTA said that service has to remain suspended till further orders.
