ISLAMABAD ( BMZ REPORT )
Showing its commitment to the development of higher education sector of the country, the Government has released an amount of Rs. 25.673 billion for development projects of higher education sector for Fiscal Year 2014-15. Allocated amount was Rs. 20.021 billion for development projects in previous year’s budget.
The development has taken place for the first time in the history of HEC since its inception in 2002 that the incumbent Government has not only provided a significant amount for the development projects but also an enhanced budget has been released, through a supplementary grant. A total of 91 projects have been completed in FY 2014-15, however 10 of these projects were completed due to the extra sum.
The exemplary step shows commitment of the present Government towards development of HE sector in Pakistan. It is worth-mentioning here that this budget is being used for institutional facilities, introducing new disciplines in cutting edge and market-based technologies, developing human resource including faculty and infrastructure, improving research facilities and developing state-of-the-art development and financial aid model in universities across the country.
Keeping in view the standards and the cut-throat competition in international education sector, the Government of Pakistan and Higher Education Commission are working on a strategic plan to bring reforms in Higher Education.
The Planning and Development Division of HEC translates the vision of Government into projects and programmes and makes them possible through development, funding and implementation of projects in these areas. The Planning and Development Division of HEC aims to provide guidance in integration of national policies and expectations so as to achieve the goals and objectives of Government in Higher Education sector.
