Chief Executive TDAP sees enhanced role of computer industry in the national economy

Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP) Chief Executive SM Munir has urged the computer and IT related business community to take new initiatives to enhance the role of this crucial sector of economy at par with various other countries in the region. He was talking to a visiting delegation of Pakistan Computer Association (PCA) led by Munawar Iqbal, Chairman of the association.
SM Munir said that developing computer and IT industry is imperative to strengthen overall economic growth and economic sustainability in the country. Therefore, he said that government of Pakistan is open to lend all kind of support and facilitation to computer and IT industry in Pakistan and keep the suggestions presented by the representatives of the industry in full consideration while formulating new policies in this regard.
Munawar Iqbal earlier briefed the Chief Executive of TDAP away on various dimensions and issues being faced by computer and IT industry in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan has huge potential to boost the industry as well as our national exports in the sector. However, he said, the facilitation on part of government would be pivotal to achieve the desired results.
The other senior office bearers of PCA including Abdullah Malik, Coordinator PCA also presented their views on the occasion and said that a rational taxation policy for computer and IT sector is important to curb the trend of smuggling and the scale of illicit business practices in the sector. They were of view that a reformed taxation policy would ensure additional revenue to national exchequer as it would lead to broaden the existing tax base in computer and IT sector.
Munawar Iqbal while highlighting the work and objectives of PCA said that being only representative of the computer and IT businesses in the country, this platform could play a vital role turning large number of unemployed youth into highly productive work force in the country.
SM Munir appreciated the idea and said that such endeavors would surely contribute in reducing unemployment besides enhancing economic activities in the country. The delegation and Chief Executive TDAP showed fully agreement on the need of regular such interactions to translate the ideas into concrete action plans.
