Minister of State for IT Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan chaired a meeting to discuss aspects related to biometric verification of the voters. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Election Commission of Pakistan, NADRA and various vendors specializing in developing biometric solutions.
Earlier in October 2015, Ministry of IT on request of the sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms, had held demonstrations and evaluated the EVM solutions presented by vendors. The efforts of the Ministry were appreciated by the Committee. Today’s meeting took stock regarding technical feasibility of secure biometric verification solutions as suggested by NADRA that could potentially be used during elections. The preliminary requirements/capabilities were explained to the vendors to be incorporated in the final specs of desired hardware.
Minister of State for IT stressed that transparency, reliability, efficiency and security should be ensured.
