Vcomstas ! On telephone call seized the project.

ISLAMABAD ( ABRAR MUSTAFA )

VCOMSATS Institute of Information Technology  campus which offered students the chance to learn online was notified through a telephone call to seize its operations.

Vcomsats  Campuses were established to increase the coverage of higher education in Pakistan. Established in 2013, the project has seen around 100 local institution joining it, offering numerous higher education degrees under VCOMSATS.

All participating institutions were assured that all degrees will be recognized and attested by the HEC and VCOMSATS. However today, a notification was issued on telephone whereupon it was instructed to seize this project.

The news has been met with quite alarm and anger as this will jeopardize the life and career of students that have gotten their degrees from the Vcomsats university.  Currently TelecoAlert.com is trying to ascertain the number of students that have completed their degrees and how many were in the process of getting one from the program.

Educational institutions that took part in the program will also be in considerable financial trouble as they have invested heavily. These institutions have bought furniture, electronics and other necessary items to run their educational institutions that will now be useless without HEC backing this venture.

It is worth noting here that the program was running since 2013. Before today, it had full backing of HEC and students along with the participating educational institutions had full assurance that the degrees that were to be awarded were recognized. However with this telephone call that many institutions are getting, it now seems something is amiss at the Higher Education Commission. According to the last update on HEC website, the institution was not listed among its recognized universities since May, 2016.

In Pakistan, HEC recognition is quite important as it allows students to apply to universities, scholarship and get admissions abroad. It is also helps in getting employment in both private and public sector.

Currently we have no comments from either the HEC or VCOMSATS.

This matter is unsolved for the last two years but Vcomsats has failed to meet HEC standards. Hundreds of students are trying to verify their degrees but HEC is not accepting the VC issued  degrees .
