ISLAMABAD ( BMZ REPORT )
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mr Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced that Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made three discoveries of oil and gas from its exploratory wells namely Gundanwari-1, Mithri-1 and Khamiso well-1, which are located in Districts Ghotki and Khairpur of Sindh Province. These discoveries will result in an increase of 30 MMSCFD gas in total output of the country.
Speaking on the occasion the minister said that exploration and production activities have increased by 40 % during the current governments tenure, despite downward pull due to falling oil prices. He further said that 90 discoveries have been made during the current government’s tenure and the success ratio has also jumped from 31% to 55%. While praising OGDCL, the minister said that OGDCL alongwith PPL has led the efforts of exploration in the field of oil and gas.
OGDCL, the largest listed Company of Pakistan and leader in E&P sector is moving ahead with aggressive exploratory activities by vigorously pursuing operations in Balochistan, KPK, Sindh and Punjab provinces. Company holds 33% of exploration acreage of Pakistan and accounts for 55% of oil and 28% of gas being produced in the Country.
For the long term sustainability and meeting energy requirements, OGDCL has planned 25 wells during the current year.
The structure of Gundanwari # 01 Mithri #01 and Khamiso # 01 were delineated, drilled and tested using OGDCL’s in house expertise and in close collaboration with GHPL team. The Gundanwari # 01 well was drilled down to the depth of 3,750 M and Mithri #01 was drilled down to the depth of 4,250 M. The Gundanwari well # 01 has tested 19.40 MMSCFD of gas and 15 BPD of Condensate through 32/64” choke at well head flowing pressure 3,300 Psi from Lower Goru (Massive Sand Formation). While Mithri #01 has tested 6.44 MMSCFD of gas through 32/64” choke at well head pressure 1,600 Psi from Lower Goru (Massive Sand) formation. The structure of Khamiso # 01 was drilled down to the depth of 753 meter. The well has tested 2.95 MMSCFD of gas through choke 32/64” at well head flowing pressure of 505 Psi from Pirkoh Limestone formation.
These discoveries have opened up a new avenue and would add hydrocarbon reserve base of OGDCL, GHPL and of the Country.
