A very dynamic and activity-filled day was observed on Saturday at Usman Institute of Technology,Pakistan’s premium technology institution, where the ACM Karachi Student Congress 2016 (AKSC ’16) was held with great fervor.
A collaboration between Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, and UIT Computing Society (UITCS), an active student chapter of the ACM, the event featured various workshops, competitions and seminars encompassing digital technology, cybersecurity, engineering ethics, games/app development and more.
Mr. Mohammed Ebrahim Hasham, CEO, Mehran Sugar Mills Ltd.attended the event as the Chief Guest. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Zahir A. Syed, Director UIT, and others from the institute’s top management. Students and academics of UIT and other technology institutes of Karachi were also present at the event in big numbers.
The daylong event was inaugurated by Dr. Zahir A. Syed, followed by a welcome speech by the Chief Guest Mr. Ahmed E. Hasham. The activities that ensued included three workshops on app, game and web development, five competitions about programming, innovation, ethics and video games, and two seminars on cybersecurity and engineering projects & community service. All activities were moderated by the leaders in their respective industries.
“We are proud to have organized the AKSC ’16 from UIT’s powerful platform,” said Mr. Mohammed E. Hasham. “At Usman Institute of Technology, we not only aim for academic excellence, but also provide students and academics with opportunities to engage in activities that promote innovation, technology, and a healthy competition in the country. I thank all participants for being here today and making the AKSC ’16 a huge success,” he added.
“With AKSC ’16, we continue our tradition of providing youth of Pakistan with opportunities to showcase their abilities and enhance their knowledge base and skills,” said Dr. Zahir A. Syed. “We believe that classroom instruction is only a part of an education while real learning comes from the outside world with events like today’s Student Congress making a huge impact on a person’s knowledge. We at Usman Institute of Technology will continue this trend by creating more opportunities for students, instructors, and entrepreneurs to mingle, network, and share industry knowledge,” he added.
Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) organizes different seminars, as well as national and international conferences. Faculty of UIT arranges different educational events for students and public at large. There are two international societies currently working for the grooming of future engineers and scientists. These two International societies include IEEE UIT Student Branch under the supervision of Engr. Atif Fareed, and Association for Computing Machinery under the supervision of Engr. Prakash Lohana, working for the well-rounded development of students that encompasses technical knowledge, skills and character-building.
