ZTE to unveil first gigabit LTE smartphone at MWC

ISLAMABAD ( MEDIA REPORT )

ZTE announced plans to unveil a ‘gigabit’ smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. ZTE said the “forward-looking” ZTE Gigabit Phone marks an “important cornerstone for the 5G mobile era”.

The device will support speeds of 1 Gbps, suggesting it will work on the new LTE Advanced Pro networks being rolled out. Telstra recently launched the first of these in Sydney, but so far only offers a router that can reach the maximum network speeds.

In December Telenet achieved speeds of 1.3 Gbps in an outdoor demonstration of 4.5G technology from ZTE. Telenet claimed a first in Europe to achieve such speeds in real-life conditions.

ZTE said it will also be displaying at MWC its latest flagship smartphone, the Axon 7, which runs both Android Nougat and Daydream by Google. ZTE also plans to launch a range of new devices in its Blade series.
