DGPR To Collaborate With Social Media Influencers

LAHORE ( PRESS RELEASE )

Information and Culture Department, Punjab organized a meet-up with social media influencers in Alhamra. Secretary Information and Culture Department Raja Jahangir Anwar, Executive Director Punjab Arts Council Saman Rai, Executive Director Lahore Arts Council Ather Ali Khan, Director Electronic Media Rubina Khan, Deputy Director DGPR Waqar Azeem Jappa and Mr. Azhar Mashwani Spokesperson to CM Punjab on digital attended the event.

‘Government will introduce amendments into the advertisement policy 2018 to tap this rather ignored segment of social media influencers,’ said Secretary Information and Culture Raja Jahangir Anwar.

He further articulated that governments and bureaucracy are always working for the people, irrespective of the party in power. It is, also, our mutual responsibility to spread positivity, which should have been done by mainstream media. We know that social media has the power to make and break governments. We have seen its role in election campaigns; we have seen the working of Cambridge Analytical; so entering into digital marketing is not an option, it is the need of the hour.

In response to question about the legitimacy of government’s one year performance, Mr. Anwar said that ‘we welcome all of you to validate the development projects before blogging or vlogging, just let us know your interest and we will arrange your visits to the project sites and meetings with the relevant officials and ministers to address your concerns or doubts if you have any.’

It is the very first time in the history of DGPR that over 150 social media influencers belonging to different fields, from politics to fashion and drama to lifestyle, attended the event and laid foundation of a two-way relationship with the government.

While addressing the audience, representatives of bloggers Ajlal Ahmad and Hassan the Foodie also expressed their gratitude and said that it is welcoming that government has taken a step in the right direction.
