A meeting was held in Planning Commission under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Panning Commission. It was decided that subject to minor modalities the PC I of Locust Emergency and Food Security/ Projects (LEAFS) is ready for implementation. It will be submitted to the next Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for formal assent. Officially provinces and other stakeholders agreed for implantation of LEAFS. The meeting was attended by representative from Ministry of National Food Security and Research (NFSR), Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and all provinces. The project is the first federal agricultural project financed by the World Bank in Pakistan. This is a direct response to the consensus that NFSR policy function and coordination role in policy making, its implementation and emergency role across provinces should be significantly strengthened. NFSR is responsible for overall project implementation with the support of provincial governments, DPP, NLCC, FAO and NDMA. The project cost envelope is 200 Million USD i.e., 32,800 Million PKR.
