Says tax reforms crucial to reduce dependence on foreign aid

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that it is beyond any doubt that COAS together with all army is patriotic.
President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed these views while talking to media persons in Peshawar on Monday. According to a private TV channel, he kept on answering to the questions of journalists for an hour.
When he was asked a query about the statement of former premier and Chairman Imran Khan with respect to the appointment of next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) a few days ago, the President said Khan can explain his statement on his own and continued he can also be questioned on this matter. “I don’t want to create confusion on the matter. He who passes statement he ought to come forward to explain it.” he added.
However, he added no-one needs to be suspicious about the faithfulness of Pakistan Army as it is engaged in providing assistance to the flood victims. He said at this time the biggest issue is to record the private conversation. “How does it suit that a person who is at conversation with his family members while his conversation is being recorded,” he added.
Social media is like an animal which should not be given much significance, he said, adding “we will have to bear this as it cannot be regulated; however, anyone should be conscious about his own statements.”
He maintained that taping people phones is a very dangerous act; however, it is done all across the world. About E-Voting, the President said he is its supporter as he had worked on it.
President Alvi said he was not working on the establishment of a national government but he is willing to take the all on one page and continued he was hopeful of it to happen. “Meetings keep on occurring with the Prime Minister although he is not close in touch with me; however, there is no distance between the duo. Transparency may put an end to distrust among the provinces,” he said.
Meanwhile, while addressing a seminar regarding creating awareness for taxpayers in Peshawar, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that tax reforms were crucial for reducing dependence on foreign aid. He said effective taxation system can reduce Pakistan’s dependency on external aid.
He said it is the responsibility of the government to not only collect tax with utmost transparency but also to protect the rights of the taxpayers.
President Dr. Arif Alvi said the prime responsibility of the state is provision of a uniform education and health system through a transparent tax collection system. He lauded the role of federal tax ombudsman for the resolution of public grievances within a short span of time. He said the alternate dispute resolution is playing a vital role to minimize the burden of cases on courts.
The President stressed on the government to mobilize all possible resources for a transparent digitized taxation system in the country.
