The mother of slain senior journalist and anchorperson Muhammad Arshad Sharif, Riffat Ara Alv through her lawyer Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui filed a miscellaneous petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday to include former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and other confidants of former prime minister in her son murder probe.
The pursuit of justice for the late journalist Arshad Sharif took a significant step forward as his mother, accompanied by her legal team, filed a miscellaneous petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The petition seeks to expand the ongoing murder probe of her son Arshad Sharif.
The miscellaneous petition urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to include Imran Khan, Muhammad Faisal Vawda, Murad Saeed, Salman Iqbal and Imran Riaz Khan in the probe of her son Arshad Sharif murder.
The counsel for slain journalist Arshad Sharif’s mother requested the Supreme Court to direct the special joint investigation team (JIT) probing the anchorperson’s murder to examine the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan and others who were making claims regarding people involved in the incident.
The application stated that it was a matter of record that so many persons made claims about the people involved in the conspiracy and the execution of the murder. “As the applicant and her counsel has not been given access to fact-finding inquiry report and reports submitted by the JIT, therefore, the applicant is kept in the dark about the persons joined in the investigation of the case,” it stated
The plea maintained that “these persons have made claims with all certainty to this effect, therefore, they need to be joined in the investigation to collect evidence against the real perpetrators”. It named the ex-premier Imran Khan, as well as PTI leader and former communications minister Murad Saeed, former PTI leader and federal minister for water resources Muhammad Faisal Vawda, ARY news channel’s CEO Salman Iqbal and journalist and Vlogger Imran Riaz Khan as those who should be probed by the JIT.
“In order to conclude the fair investigation it is incumbent upon the JIT to examine these persons along with others making claims to this effect,” the petition said.
It requested that the head of the JIT be directed to examine the listed people for the “purposes of investigation and collection of evidence”.
It has been prayed in the application that head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) may very kindly be directed to examine the persons noted above for the purposes of investigation and collection of evidence. It has been said that this pray has been made in the interest of justice.
It is worth mentioning here that a five-member larger bench headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar will hear the case pertaining to the murder of Arshad Sharif in Kenya on June 13.
