BR has postponed its decision to disconnect the electricity and gas connections of tax evaders and block their mobile phone SIMs due to facing legal issues from the courts. FBR sources say that action was to be taken against the non-filers under Section 114 B of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Sources said that the Income Tax General Order could not be prepared before taking action against non-filers, FBR could have faced legal issues from the courts by taking action against non-filers. Sources said that after issuing the list of active taxpayers till March 1, action can be taken against the non-filers, there will be measures to impose fines on the non-filers, apart from SIMs and disconnections. FBR could not take action against non-filers due to legal issues and incomplete data. The measures aimed to bring up to two million new taxpayers into the tax net by June 2024.
