The Federal Tax Ombudsman presented the annual report 2023 to the President Dr. Arif Alvi. The ombudsman also informed about the measures to resolve the complaints against tax payers’ convenience and mismanagement of the tax authorities. According to the press wing of the President’s House, the tax ombudsman Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah gave a briefing to the President on the overall performance of the ombudsman. Federal Tax Ombudsman processed 8963 cases in 2023, Tax Ombudsman decided more than 17 billion tax refund claims in 2023, tax refund amount was paid by FBR to affected taxpayers. In the briefing, it was stated that concrete steps were taken to increase the reach of the Tax Ombudsman through awareness campaigns in the country, new regional offices, and honorary advisers were appointed in the United States, Canada, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and the Philippines for the convenience of Pakistanis living abroad. The Tax Ombudsman has appointed honorary advisers from different Chambers of Industry and Commerce for the convenience of the business community. In the briefing, it was stated that the mobile app was developed to ensure quick response against the misconduct of the tax authorities, the app will help the affected complainants to file complaints, get information from the mobile/smart devices, the profession of different ombudsmen of the country. Informative training sessions were also organized to increase professional skills. President of the State Dr. Arif Alvi said that the Tax Ombudsman processed record cases in 2023, the provision of refunds of 17.74 billion rupees to taxpayers is commendable. He said that the institution of tax ombudsman needs to be further strengthened, the tax ombudsman is providing free and prompt justice to the affected taxpayers.
