Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed to prepare and present a comprehensive road map to increase domestic IT exports. A review meeting regarding information technology was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Governor State Bank Jameel. Ahmed, Shahzad Salim and the relevant senior officials attended, the meeting was informed in detail about the IT sector in the country, and the 5 billion IT package given to the Prime Minister in June 2023 by the Prime Minister was discussed in the meeting. The meeting was told that thanks to the special attention of the Prime Minister in the previous government, the exports of the IT sector have increased by 13% in the first 7 months of this year compared to last year. It was further informed that under the Digi-Skills program, IT training has been given to about 4 million students in 17 batches in which 28% are women. The meeting was further informed that the number of freelancers Pakistan is the second largest country in the world, Pakistan exports its IT products to 170 countries. The meeting was told that last year, 400 million dollars were invested in Pakistani startups, the Prime Minister directed that Pakistan’s All necessary legal and policy measures should be taken to increase investment and exports in the IT sector. The Prime Minister said that the work on professional and technical training projects of the youth should be accelerated to take full advantage of the potential of the IT sector. The meeting was briefed about IT, e-employment, start-ups, cyber security, telecom sector and the progress and initiatives on the launch of 5G in the country. The Prime Minister said that steps will be taken to take full advantage of the potential of IT exports worth billions of dollars in the country, the youth need education and skills in the IT sector and start-ups. will provide facilities, the projects launched for the IT industry in the previous government are getting positive results, solved all the problems related to banking of startups, freelancers and IT companies, IT exports this year. The expected volume is more than 3 billion dollars, which is welcome, but we have to increase it, a comprehensive report should also be prepared and presented regarding Special Technology Zones. Shahbaz Sharif said that hard work has to be done to bring Pakistan’s IT sector to international standards.
