Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) delegation led by acting President Azhar ul Islam Zafar met with IESCO officials, including Director Operations, Chief Engineer and others, to discuss the pressing electricity issues faced by domestic and commercial consumers. He emphasized the need for IESCO to upgrade its infrastructure to modern standards to address the problems on priority basis.

The ICCI delegation expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of distribution companies, particularly IESCO’s refusal to repair commercial transformers, which has added to the woes of the already suffering business community.

Chairman Founder Group Khalid Iqbal Malik stressed that replacing and repairing faulty transformers is IESCO’s sole responsibility and the company’s reluctance to do so is unjustified, especially given the high cost of electricity borne by businesses during peak hours.

President All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajraan Ajmal Baloch highlighted that the former IESCO chief had committed that the company was responsible for repairing all transformers installed before 2008. He emphasized that despite commercial tariffs being double then those of domestic, and businesses bearing the highest electricity costs during peak hours, IESCO refuses to accept responsibility for repairing commercial transformers, which is unjustified and contradiction to its previous commitments. He also expressed his concern over the fact that IESCO repairs and changes all the transforms in its jurisdiction except those in CDA jurisdiction.

Director Operations IESCO assured the delegation that genuine problems of the business community would be resolved on priority basis, a survey of old transformers would be conducted a committee comprising business community members and IESCO officials would be formed to find a viable solution to the problem.

The meeting aimed to find a solution to the long-standing issues faced by consumers and to improve IESCO’s performance to meet customer satisfaction.

ICCI delegation also included SVP Faizan Shahzad, acting VP Dr. Mohammad Usman, former SVP Khalid Chaudhry, Executive member Maqsood Tabish, Nasir Chaudhry, Irfan Chaudhry and other.
