Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer  Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced that the party is going to observe Gaza week with effect from Oct 1 to 7, featuring Gaza Million March in Karachi on October 6 and countrywide protest on October 7 among other highlights.

Haiz Naeeemur Rehman announced this at a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi Headquarters, on Monday. He was accompanied by the JI Karachi Emir Monem Zafar and other leaders. The JI leader was on a visit to the mega city.

Talking to the media, he demanded the government to observe October 7 on the national level as an expression of solidarity with the people of Palestine and their freedom fighters.

He appealed to the nation to take to roads at 12 in the noon on October 7 to express solidarity with their Palestinian brothers and sisters.

Talking about the domestic issues, he said that the JI-government agreement on Independent Power Producers has already time lapsed. The JI leadership will announce its future course of action today (Tuesday), at a press conference, to be held at its central office in Mansoora, Lahore, he said.

During the past 45 days, the government failed to take any substantial measure to provide relief to the people, he said. So far, the JI has observed a countrywide strike and protests against IPPs, he added.

Now, a wheel jam strike, spanning from one to three days, a march to Islamabad, a call against paying electricity bills and other options are under consideration, he said for the future.

On the occasion, he demanded of the ruling elite to shun its gigantic lavish expenditure on the cost of taxpayers’ necessities. He asked the government to share the burden of tax with feudal lords as well and decrease the burden on the poor. He demanded of the ruling regime to end the nasty game of capacity payments to the IPPs.

Haifz Naeemur Rehman also highlighted the issue of the K-Electric and said that it has been blessed out of the way by the ruling elite. The KE has become a mafia in Karachi, whereas the government has been negating the demand of forensic audit of its accounts, instead the shady company with visibly checkered record was blessed with a fresh leaf of life.

The JI leader held a handful of families responsible for the prevailing situation in the country. He said that only four percent of growers own 40 percent of agricultural land in the country. He said that the conditions of the nation can’t be changed with getting rid of the stinky corrupt elite.

He suggested that the government should reduce the petrol price to Rs150 as the petrol price in the international market has already dipped to 70 US dollars per barrel.

On the occasion, he hailed Monem Zafar, the JI Karachi chapter chief and MPA Muhammad Farooq over challenging the purchase of luxury vehicles for bureaucrats. He said that the PPP government in Sindh has been usurping the rights of the people live in both urban and rural areas of the province.

Talking about the so-called judicial reforms, he said it seems that the government wants to penetrate into the judiciary through a hidden door. He asked the government to follow the just rule of seniority.
