Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Balochistan lawyers bravely resisted dictatorship, and today, Pakistan’s judicial system needs reforms. He said that no judge had the courage to term the black law of a dictator as unconstitutional. Bilawal Bhutto said that he was not struggling for the current chief justice in the proposed constitutional amendment, adding that he has great respect for Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah. Bilawal Bhutto said that if the constitution will say that there should be constitutional court then you will have to accept it, adding that it is the duty of the court to ensure the implementation of constitution and law.

Addressing the Balochistan High Court Bar on Tuesday, Bilawal Bhutto expressed his gratitude to the High Court Bar Association, District Bar, and PLF, saying, “I have been allowed to speak to the lawyers of Balochistan once again. Those who claim to be champions of lawyers today know nothing about my connection with lawyers. Don’t think I come from Lahore or Islamabad – I am one of you.”

He further said, “We have been fighting a struggle for generations. This was never a revolution of guns; nothing has happened in a day or a year.”

Bilawal Bhutto stated that the restoration of the constitution was the aim of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s political struggle. Benazir Bhutto fought for the restoration of the constitution for 30 years, he added.

“We restored the 1973 constitution through the Charter of Democracy. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged, and the workers of my party and others were targeted,” he maintained.

The former foreign minister said, “Today, the PTI knows more about Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s struggle than I do. You have seen the era of PML-N, during which I and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto were made to sit outside the jail. My father was imprisoned for 12 and a half years without any charges. He was imprisoned at first on Nawaz Sharif’s will and then on late General Pervez Musharraf’s will.”

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “Iftikhar Chaudhry was acquitted of all cases in the presence of Nawaz Sharif. I am the grandson of the Quaid-e-Awam, the son of BB and the President. I am just like you lawyers; everything has happened to me too.”

Bilawal Bhutto said, “I have nothing to do with the judicial battle in Islamabad.”
