Pakistan and China Agree to Enhance Cooperation in Various Sectors, Exchange of 13 MoUs and Documents. During a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s House, Pakistan and China exchanged 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), agreements, and documents to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sectors such as security, education, agriculture, human resource development, and science and technology.

Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and Li Qiang of China, along with their respective delegations, attended the event. China’s Prime Minister emphasized that China’s commitment is to the development and prosperity of Pakistan and its people.

Key exchanges included an MoU on the delivery of the Smart Classrooms Project, signed by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal and China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. Other significant agreements included:

  • MoU related to the 13th meeting of the CPEC Joint Coordination Committee, exchanged by Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal and Vice Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission Liu Shuxu.
  • MoU on the 7th meeting of the joint working group for Gwadar under CPEC, as well as employment promotion under CPEC.
  • Cooperation agreements in information and communication sectors, flood control, disaster mitigation, and water infrastructure protection.
  • Agreements on security cooperation, human resource development under the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and firefighting vehicles for Islamabad.
  • Protocol for the export of meat to China, signed by Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
  • MoU for establishing joint laboratories and producing joint television programs.

Additionally, an agreement was announced between the State Bank of Pakistan and the People’s Bank of China regarding currency exchange.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang virtually inaugurated the New Gwadar International Airport, emphasizing that Gwadar serves as a hub for regional development and a game-changer for Pakistan. Both leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to a shared future and comprehensive development.

Speaking at the virtual ceremony on Monday at the Prime Minister’s House, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked that several agreements in sectors such as industry, agriculture, and trade have been signed between Pakistan and China. These bilateral agreements mark a new chapter in the relationship between the two friendly nations. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese Prime Minister for his visit to Pakistan, which reinforces the strong friendship between the two countries.

Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged China’s steadfast commitment to Pakistan’s development and thanked President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people for gifting the Gwadar Airport. He highlighted that the airport will not only benefit Gwadar but will contribute to the development of the entire country. The project, completed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is a testament to the collaboration between both nations. The Prime Minister assured that Pakistan would continue working closely with China for the implementation of CPEC’s second phase and for the peace and security of the people of both countries.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, during his address, congratulated the Pakistani government and people on the completion of Gwadar Airport. He praised the efforts of Chinese and Pakistani workers who worked tirelessly to complete this world-class project. Li Qiang emphasized that Gwadar is not only a symbol of regional development but also a reflection of the strong friendship between China and Pakistan. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity and stated that the strategic partnership between the two countries will grow stronger over time. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to shared development goals.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.
