New Difficulty for the Public: Gas Prices Set to Rise Regardless of Supply

Gas companies have submitted requests to Ogra for increased gas prices, with expectations of up to a 50% hike. According to details, the proposal includes a 53.47% increase in gas prices for Sindh and Balochistan, while a 3.66% increase is proposed for Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The gas companies have submitted their requests to Ogra, with Sui Northern proposing an average increase of 64.16 rupees per MMBtu. They are requesting an average price of 1,810.38 rupees per MMBtu. Meanwhile, Sui Southern has submitted a request for an increase of 669.07 rupees per MMBtu, aiming for an average price of 1,920.39 rupees per MMBtu.

The gas companies are demanding that the price increase take effect from July 1, 2024. In this regard, Ogra has sought proposals from gas consumers regarding the companies’ requests. Ogra will hold a hearing on the Sui Northern Gas Company’s application on November 5, and on Sui Southern’s application on November 8.
