Supreme Court Bar Association Elections: Asma Jahangir Group Wins Again

The Asma Jahangir Group has once again emerged victorious in the Supreme Court Bar Association elections. The presidential candidate from the Asma Jahangir Group, Mian Muhammad Raouf Ata, secured 1,328 votes, while the candidate from the Hamid Khan Group, Munir Ahmed Kakar, managed to get 1,075 votes. The Hamid Khan Group did not win any polling station across the country.
The Asma Jahangir Group (Independent Group) dominated the elections. Mian Muhammad Raouf Ata was elected president after receiving 1,328 votes. In contrast, Munir Ahmed Kakar from the Hamid Khan Group garnered only 1,075 votes and failed to win in any polling station nationwide. This time, the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association was elected from Balochistan.
The Asma Jahangir Group is led by former president Chaudhry Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, while the Hamid Khan Group is headed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Senator Hamid Khan. In the Lahore Supreme Court registry, Mian Muhammad Raouf Ata received 558 votes, while Munir Ahmed Kakar received 484 votes. In Islamabad, Raouf Ata secured 348 votes compared to Kakar’s 326 votes, winning by a margin of 26 votes. A total of 681 votes were cast in the principal seat of the Supreme Court in Islamabad.
In various regions, the Asma Jahangir Group’s Raouf Ata won decisively: in Bannu with 21 votes to Kakar’s 10, in Dera Ismail Khan with 25 votes to Kakar’s 11, in Swat with 20 votes to Kakar’s 12, in Multan with 125 votes to Kakar’s 85, and in Peshawar with 127 votes to Kakar’s 123. In Hyderabad, he secured 50 votes against Kakar’s 34, and in Bahawalpur, he received 54 votes to Kakar’s 38.
Notably, a total of 4,021 lawyers participated in the voting process for the Supreme Court Bar Association’s annual elections, which took place with stringent security measures at polling stations. The polling process was conducted from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
