Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), stated that excessive powers are being granted to institutions and that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are suffocating democracy. In a press conference held in Islamabad on Monday, prior to the National Assembly and Senate sessions, he criticized the government coalition for the amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He revealed that a two-day meeting of the JUI-F’s Shura had recently taken place, where they expressed satisfaction over discussions regarding the 26th constitutional amendment, as well as congratulating the government on amendments related to the abolition of interest, the Federal Shariah Court, and the Islamic Ideological Council. According to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Shura has also deemed the passage of the Madrasah Act and initiatives for bank accounts as stable moves.

He condemned Israel’s attacks on Palestine, labeling them as war crimes, and called for the public to support Palestinian orphans financially. Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the government’s intention to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act, claiming it would again grant the defense institutions powers that do not belong to them. He compared this situation to civil martial law, calling it a slap in the face of democracy.

He accused the PML-N of passing an act that tarnishes their own image, urging the government to reconsider which clauses of the 26th amendment have been repealed, questioning whether the current amendment act contradicts it. He asserted that the act recently passed grants the military authority over civilian matters.

The JUI-F leader declared that they have deemed the act passed within Islamabad’s jurisdiction as un-Islamic and that they are not bound by any un-Islamic decisions. He stated that they answer only to Allah, not the Supreme Court, and emphasized that they will not accept any such decisions. He criticized the labeling of Islamic values as contrary to human rights, describing it as a tactic of atheists.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman vowed to actively raise awareness among the public against such actions, promising that they will prevent any mockery of Allah’s religion. He announced that there will be an “Israel Must Die” conference in Peshawar on December 8.
