The deadline for registering unregistered VPNs has passed, and more than 27,000 VPNs have been registered so far. Starting today, December 1, illegal VPNs will be shut down. According to sources from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), VPN registration is essential for national security and data protection, and the PTA had set the registration deadline as November 30. More than 27,000 VPNs have already been registered. However, the decision to extend the registration deadline will be made by the Ministry of Interior. There is a possibility of an extension in the registration deadline, as the IT industry, freelancers, and other stakeholders have demanded an extension. They argue that registered VPNs can enhance cybersecurity. Sources further indicate that if the deadline is not extended, unregistered VPNs will be shut down.
