Bench to Hear Various Cases Including Military Trials of Civilians and Contempt Case Against Imran Khan

A seven-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, will hear cases on December 9.

The bench has also scheduled the hearing for petitions regarding the trial of civilians in military courts on Monday, December 9.

The bench will hear the contempt of court case against PTI founder Imran Khan on December 10.

The bench will also hear a petition challenging the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on December 11.

The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled the hearing for the suo motu notice regarding the murder of renowned journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif. The bench will hear the case on December 9. The bench, led by Senior Judge Justice Aminuddin Khan, includes Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Syed Hassan Raza, Musarat Hilali, Naeem Afghan, and Shahid Bilal Hassan. The bench will hear the suo motu notice under Article 184-3 of the Constitution concerning the impartial and independent investigation of Arshad Sharif’s murder in Kenya.

Notices have been issued by the court to the Secretary of the Interior, Director General of the FIA, Attorney General of Pakistan, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, DG IB, President of PFUJ, and other relevant authorities. The bench has also scheduled the hearing for cases regarding the trial of civilians in military courts in connection with the events of May 9, 2023, for December 9. The bench will hear petitions filed by the Shuhada Foundation Balochistan, the federal government, the Punjab government, and others, challenging the legality of civilian trials in military courts.

Additionally, the bench will hear the suo motu notice regarding media freedom and the FIA’s treatment of journalists on December 9. The bench has also scheduled a hearing for the contempt of court case against PTI founder Imran Khan on December 10. This case was filed by the federal government for contempt of court following the violation of judicial orders on May 25.

Other cases scheduled for hearing include petitions against the expulsion of illegal Afghan nationals, with the bench set to hear the matter on December 9. The case was filed by Farhatullah Babar regarding the government’s decision to expel Afghan nationals. Petitions against the registration of cases against PTI leaders will also be heard on December 10, and a petition regarding Imran Khan’s transfer from Adiala Jail to a prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be heard on the same day.

Imran Khan’s petition regarding alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections will be heard on December 11. Additionally, the long-pending phone tapping case, related to the installation of devices for phone tapping dating back 28 years, will also be heard on December 11.

A petition against the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja will be heard on December 11, filed by citizen Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi. Petitions against the Practice and Procedure Ordinance are scheduled for hearing on December 12.
