Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the supremacy of the constitution is the only way forward for the country to get out of the prevailing political and economic crises.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed these views addressing a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Monday. Speaking in the occasion, he said that the governments on both the federal and provincial levels, as well as the establishment needs to adhere to their constitutional framework.

Emphasizing on nurturing a peaceful political environment, he said that peaceful protest is a democratic right and clamping democratic freedoms would lead to nowhere and it would further aggravate the prevailing problems, instead of mitigating them. He further said that the entire governmental policies need to be revisited as the ongoing policies have not only deprived the nation of trust in the governance but also created divisions between the masses and the state institutions.

It was said that ‘the system’ would be uprooted but the system of corruption was not only flourishing in Karachi and Sindh but it has also found it way to Islamabad, he said. The Pakistan People Party has been sticking to Sindh in order to plunder the resources of Karachi and land grabbing, he said, adding that the 16-year-rule by the PPP in Sindh was a textbook example of bad governance.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehmna also shed light in detail on the rigging of elections and said that those installed the PPP in Sindh should undue the mess by themselves. He added that the PPP has been rejected badly by the people but the party was imposed on Sindh with the help of form 47.

Instead of overcoming the shortcomings of his regime, the mayor Karachi talked negatively about the traders’ community, he said.

Talking about the form 47 government’s cosmetic measures and uptick in the stock exchange, he said it is an open secret that the stock exchange in Pakistan doesn’t reflect the state of economy. The progress and development of the country is associated with the development of industry, agriculture, relief to the common man and reduction of power tariff, he said.

Talking about the K-Electric, he said that the production of electricity has dropped by 19 percent during the past 19 years, whereas line losses increased by several folds. Despite the overwhelming support by successive ruling regimes and ruling parties, the KE has failed on all fronts, particularly uninterrupted electric supply to Karachiites, he said, adding that the KE has to pay whooping Rs200 billions to Sui Southern Gas Company, Rs70 billion each to Pakistan Railways and Karachiites under the head of claw back.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the country and 250 million people were kept deprived of democracy as the prevailing system of controlled democracy was impure as it was manipulated with multiple tools.

Talking about the international front, he welcomed the positive gesture by the new regime in Syria and expressed his best wishes for the region and the people there. He said that dictators are ousted one day, be it Syria, Bangladesh or any other country. He also shed light on the issue of Gaza, the nefarious role of the United States in this regard and announced to take out another big march in Islamabad for Gaza on December 29. He warned the government against any attempt to sabotage the Gaza march.

JI leaders, including Muhammad Yousuf, Monem Zafar Khan, Saifuddin Advocate, Taufiquiddin Siddiqui, Raja Arif Sultan, Zahid Askari, Najeeb Ayubi and Imran Shahid flanked Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at the press conference.
