The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has halted the implementation of the proposed ban on bringing more than one mobile phone. According to private TV reports, the Chairman of FBR has instructed the withdrawal of proposed amendments to the Customs Baggage Rules of 2006 and has directed that further consultation be carried out before any new proposals are presented. Under the current 2006 rules, individuals arriving from abroad are allowed to bring two mobile phones.
Additionally, the Chairman of FBR has ordered the withdrawal of the proposal to impose a ban on commercial items exceeding $1200 and instructed that the amendments to the rules be re-submitted after further consultation. It is noteworthy that on Monday, FBR had issued a notification regarding changes to the baggage scheme, which included a complete ban on bringing commercial quantities of items from abroad and allowed only one mobile phone for personal use.
