Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Madrasah Registration Bill:

After meeting with the Prime Minister regarding the Madrasah Registration Bill, Maulana Fazlur Rehman spoke to the media.

He said that Shehbaz Sharif had instructed the Ministry of Law to take immediate steps in accordance with the constitution and law. Maulana Fazlur Rehman explained that he had invited discussions on the Madrasah Registration Bill, which had been passed by both houses of parliament. He acknowledged that the Ittehad Tanzimat Madaris Deenia (Union of Religious Madrasah Organizations) had adopted a unified stance, and after this, the government must make a final decision.

The Prime Minister had invited him to discuss the matter, and with the consent and confidence of Maulana Mufti Taqi Usmani, the head of the Ittehad Tanzimat Madaris Deenia, he attended the meeting. In addition to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) delegation, the meeting included leaders from the Pakistan Muslim League (N), the Speaker of the National Assembly, Pakistan Peoples Party leaders, and the Attorney General.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that after the bill’s passage in both houses, it had become an act. He stated that if the President of Pakistan had objections, they had already been addressed. The Speaker of the National Assembly had responded to the objections, and the President had neither reacted nor insisted on the objections. He further clarified that the second objection sent by the President was constitutionally invalid, and it had been sent after the constitutional deadline had passed and had not yet reached the Speaker’s office.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman concluded by saying that the Prime Minister had responded positively, and the Ministry of Law had been instructed to take immediate action according to constitutional and legal procedures. He expressed hope that their demands would be met, and he would inform the Madrasah organizations about the progress. He expected good news within a day or two, and believed that the issue would be resolved in line with constitutional and legal requirements.
