Speakers of a seminar held at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, under the auspices of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir branch have said that the long-standing conflict of Kashmir is a problem for the future of millions of people.
They said that India is inflicting the worst atrocities on Kashmiris in response to their demand for self-determination. The seminar was chaired by Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir branch convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, while the special guest was Parliamentary Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry.
The conference was addressed by Dr. Hafizur Rehman, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Majid Khan, Professor Dr. Shabana Fayaz, Professor Dr. Salma Malik, Professor Dr. Azizur Rehman, Secretary General of Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir Branch Parvez Ahmed, and others. The speakers said that the Kashmir dispute has a long history, adding it is a problem of life and death and future of millions of people.
The conflict is not limited between India and Pakistan but has wider and global implications and the main aspect of this conflict is the serious violations of human rights by the Indian forces which the Kashmiri people have to face on a daily basis, they said and added Kashmir has a long history of worst human rights violations.
The speakers further said that after the partition of the subcontinent, India illegally and unconstitutionally occupied an independent state. And then to maintain this illegal occupation, started an unceasing cruelty and brutality on Kashmiris and deprived all basic human political, religious and social rights of Kashmiris.
Convener APHC Ghulam Muhammad Safi said in his speech that when an occupier conquers an area, it massacre its inhabitants and violate their dignity like Israel has dealt with the Palestinians. He said that India is involved in state terrorism in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ghulam Mohammad Safi said that the All-Party Hurriyat Conference is politically advancing the Kashmir issue and we want a comprehensive solution to Kashmir issue that is the right of self-determination, adding ther issues are secondary, we will discuss the main issue.
“We want complete independence from India. We do not believe in bilateral negotiations but in trilateral negotiations and we will never accept mediation by any mediator who is a strategic partner of India, he noted. He said that the United Nations has given every oppressed the right to take up arms to get their right, so Kashmiris also have this right. In his address, Ghulam Muhammad Safi thanked Pakistan for effectively highlighting the Kashmir conflict at the global level.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Kashmir and emphasized the nation’s commitment to a just and lasting resolution to the Kashmir conflict.
Barrister Daniyal stated, “We stand by our Kashmiri brethren,” and pledged that no effort would be spared in highlighting the atrocities inflicted by Indian forces on the Kashmiri people. He condemned the Modi-led government for abrogating Articles 370 and 35A, a move aimed at settling non-Kashmiris and eroding the region’s Muslim identity.
He criticized the issuance of over 25,000 illegal domiciles to non-residents, calling it a violation of international law under Article 49 of the Geneva Convention. He further denounced the ongoing human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including extrajudicial killings, mass detentions, forced displacements, torture, and sexual violence.
He lamented the silence of global human rights watchdogs, stating, “The human rights watchdogs remain mute spectators despite the glaring violations.” Daniyal also highlighted the issue of media blackouts, curfews, and restrictions on freedom of expression in IIOJK, revealing that over 418 complete media blackouts had been imposed in recent years.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to raising the Kashmir issue at every international forum, including the UK Parliament and the European Union, and urged global human rights bodies, including the United Nations, to act decisively in accordance with its resolutions on Kashmir. The seminar concluded with a call to action for the international community to stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and work towards a resolution that ensures justice and dignity for all.
