Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed its investigation into slow internet speeds. Telecom operators have reported disruptions in social media app services in the country. PTCL has identified issues with TikTok, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram services, while two mobile operators reported a decrease in data traffic from major apps. Zong observed a 16% drop in TikTok traffic on its network, and Ufone reported a decline in the performance of OTT platforms.

Details show that telecom companies have been facing issues with social media and web browsing. Telecom operators provided details about the issues on their networks. JAZZ and Telenor identified issues with blocking on X (formerly Twitter) but did not report any issues with web browsing or data services. Zong reported a decrease in data traffic for all major apps, while Ufone pointed out a decline in the performance of OTT platforms. According to Ufone, there were no issues with web browsing.

Fixed-line operators also reported issues with slow internet speeds. PTCL identified disruptions in social media services, including TikTok, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, but reported no issues with web browsing. Cybernet also noted disruptions in both social media and web browsing on its network. NayaTel, on the other hand, reported no service disruptions on its network. PTA confirmed slow speeds in video streaming, calls, and web browsing, noting that the increasing use of VPNs has added extra load to bandwidth. To meet internet demand, there is a need to increase bandwidth. PTA has sent its investigative report to the Ministry of IT.
