Imran Khan: The Decision in the Al-Qadir Trust Case Is Being Delayed to Pressure Me, I Will Not Seek an NRO

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of PTI, Imran Khan, stated that the decision in the Al-Qadir Trust case is being delayed to exert pressure on him. However, he emphasized that he would not seek an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) like Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. He said, “We will resolve our cases in the courts.” Speaking to lawyers and journalists in Adiala Jail, he mentioned that he had witnessed all the martial laws imposed in Pakistan during his lifetime, but what is happening in the country today under the guise of democracy can only be compared to the era of Yahya Khan.

He explained that under martial law, the first thing that happens is the strangulation of democracy, an independent judiciary, and free media to prevent anyone from raising their voice against the dictator’s wrongdoings. He stated that since free media often criticizes, its voice is silenced, and the judiciary, because it has the power to act on wrong decisions, has its powers stripped away. Khan remarked that in the name of democracy, today’s martial law includes all these fascist tactics in full force.

He questioned, “What kind of democracy is this where the name of the chairman of Pakistan’s largest and most popular political party is banned from being mentioned in the media?” He further added that just as the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report had exposed how Yahya Khan destroyed the country’s system for his power, the same is happening today. The fraudulent Form 47 and the continuous crushing of PTI to protect the fraudulent government have resulted in the death of democracy, the rule of law, and the independence of the judiciary.

Imran Khan criticized Shehbaz Sharif, calling him nothing more than a puppet and a clerk. He argued that the most powerful prime minister during Musharraf’s era was Shaukat Aziz because, at least during his time, elections were not rigged to the extent they are in February 2024. He pointed out that a government built on fraudulent elections through Form 47 is illegitimate and an embarrassment.

He claimed that the decision in the Al-Qadir Trust case, like his previous cases, is being delayed to put pressure on him. He demanded that the decision be issued immediately because, just like the ‘Sifar’ (cipher) case and the earlier case, the same outcome will happen if it remains unresolved. Khan called the Al-Qadir case completely bogus, stating there is no merit in it. He explained that instead of building a lavish project like Bilawal House, he established a charitable institution in a remote village for the future of the nation’s children, which has not benefited him financially in any way.

He clarified that the Al-Qadir Trust University, like Shaukat Khanum and Namal Universities, is a public welfare institution funded by charitable donations. Khan firmly stated, “I will not take an NRO like Nawaz Sharif and Zardari. We will resolve our cases in the courts.”

On the issue of his wife, Bushra Bibi, Khan denied any communication with anyone, calling the rumors merely propaganda. He added that his party’s negotiation committee was handling these matters. Khan expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation into the Islamabad killings, stating that no steps had been taken by the government regarding the missing persons, which reflects the government’s lack of seriousness about the success of negotiations.

Khan also addressed Pakistan’s economic situation, describing it as dire. He noted that the growth rate is zero, and artificially controlling the dollar is not a sign of economic success. He stated that true development comes from investment, which can only occur in a country where the rule of law exists, courts are independent, terrorism is controlled, and genuine public representatives are in power rather than in prisons. He emphasized that such a country can never achieve progress.
