Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir stated that the eight markets surrounding the Clock Tower are being made vehicle-free to dedicate them to pedestrians. In this regard, adequate parking will be provided outside each market for businesspeople and customers. Additionally, vendors from these markets will be shifted to designated areas outside the markets where street vendors’ markets will be established. These vendors will also be provided free electricity.

Furthermore, a specific time will be allocated for loading and unloading goods in the eight markets, and parking services will be provided for residents of these areas. Speaking to the media, he said that in accordance with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, efforts are being made to clear the markets of encroachments and open them up, with a priority to ease the lives of citizens and traders.

He mentioned the importance of these eight markets for business activities, noting that such markets are unique and hold both commercial value and historical significance. With this in mind, steps are being taken to make these markets vehicle-free.

He also mentioned that insured parking will be available at the parking locations, in addition to free parking. The Deputy Commissioner said that a beautiful rickshaw service will be introduced to transport shoppers to the markets. He shared that a successful meeting had been held with traders, and they are being provided with standardized designs for their shops, which will enhance the beauty of the eight markets.

He also mentioned that the Lunda Market on Rajbah Road has been removed, and ample parking space is now available there. Efforts to complete the parking plaza are being expedited. He added that they plan to turn the Clock Tower Square and its adjoining markets into the largest market in Pakistan, offering quality facilities for pedestrians along with recreational opportunities.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the parking company is the only one that has made a profit this time and soon, the entire parking system will transition to e-ticketing. He further shared that a new street vendor market has been established on Jhang Road, while model markets will be set up on Nandwala Road and Satyana Road.

He mentioned that the spaces used for Ramadan bazaars will also be utilized during times other than Ramadan, and one of these locations will be designated for the Lunda market. In response to a question, he clarified that parking facilities would be provided outside the eight markets first, and only after that will the markets be made vehicle-free.
