The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has warned the public that investing in Malik Riaz’s Dubai project will fall under the category of money laundering, as there are several ongoing investigations against him for fraud and deception. A spokesperson for NAB stated that the bureau has been informing the public about elements who, through fraud and forgery, have been illegally collecting money from people in the name of unauthorized housing societies. According to the spokesperson, NAB currently has several ongoing cases of fraud and deception against Malik Riaz and others. NAB has strong evidence that Malik Riaz and his associates have illegally occupied land in Karachi, Takht Pari Rawalpindi, and New Murree under the name of Bahria Town. Malik Riaz illegally occupied both public and private land and established housing societies without proper permits, defrauding people of billions of rupees. The spokesperson added that Malik Riaz has also occupied land in Peshawar and Jamshoro and established housing societies without NOCs. Malik Riaz continues to defraud people and collect large sums of money.
The NAB spokesperson stated that Malik Riaz is currently an absconder in an NCA case, and both the court and NAB are seeking him. NAB has already seized numerous assets of Bahria Town in Pakistan and is taking immediate legal action to seize additional assets. According to the spokesperson, Malik Riaz, as an absconder, is residing in Dubai, where he has started a new project related to luxury apartment construction. NAB has warned the public to stay away from investing in this project, as those investing would fall under money laundering, and they could face legal consequences. NAB further stated that the Government of Pakistan would contact the Dubai government immediately to determine the course of action on this matter. As a national accountability body, NAB will continue to fulfill its responsibilities. The spokesperson reiterated that NAB raises awareness about fraud and forgery related to illegal housing societies.
