The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) has begun preparations to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, 2025, with a series of impactful programs aimed at expressing unwavering support for the oppressed people of Indian-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

A meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, was held at City Campus to finalize the arrangements. The meeting was attended by Registrar Meritorious Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Controller of Examinations Prof. Dr. Wajid Aziz Lone, Chairperson Department of Sociology Prof. Dr. Nazneen Habib, Director Student Affairs Dr. Sharjil Saeed, Director Jehlum Valley Campus Dr. Imtiaz Awan, Director Institute of Kashmir Studies Dr. Sumaira Shafique, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication Dr. Shahida Khalique, and Additional Registrar Sardar Zaffar Iqbal.

The meeting resolved that Kashmir Solidarity Day will be commemorated with great zeal through multiple events organized by various university departments. These include a grand solidarity rally to demonstrate support for the Kashmiri people and a central seminar titled “Freedom of Kashmir: Our Role & Commitment”, where distinguished speakers will shed light on various aspects of the Kashmir liberation movement.

Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi emphasized that observing Kashmir Solidarity Day serves as a dual purpose: to reaffirm UAJK’s unwavering commitment to the just cause of Kashmir and to draw global attention to the atrocities, human rights violations, and demographic engineering being carried out by Indian authorities in occupied Jammu & Kashmir. He stated that the events organized by UAJK will highlight the plight of Kashmiris, the suppression of their fundamental rights, and the urgent need for the international community to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

The Vice-Chancellor further stressed that academic institutions have a critical role to play in shaping discourse and advocating for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He called upon faculty members, department heads, officers, staff, and students to actively participate in the planned activities.

Other members in the meeting echoed the Vice-Chancellor’s views, asserting that after India’s unilateral and illegal revocation of Jammu & Kashmir’s special status, the importance of expressing solidarity with Kashmiris has increased manifold. The participants reiterated their firm support for the ongoing struggle of the Kashmiri people and vowed to continue raising their voices for justice and human rights.
