Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission and PTA Delegation Visit Telenor Pakistan

A high-level delegation from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) visited Telenor Pakistan’s Campus 345 in Islamabad as part of the Regulatory Masterclass on “5G and Beyond: Shaping the Future of Connectivity.” Organized by PTA in collaboration with MCMC, the masterclass aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and international cooperation in the evolving ICT landscape.
Welcoming the delegation, Telenor Pakistan’s leadership provided an overview of the company’s efforts in enhancing connectivity, driving innovation and deploying next-generation technologies. Discussions centered around 5G readiness, digital transformation and strategies to bridge the digital divide in Pakistan. Senior officials from PTA, MCMC, and Telenor Pakistan participated in the discussions, reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering technological advancement and cross-border collaboration.
Shan ul Haq, SVP Corporate Affairs at Telenor Pakistan, expressed appreciation for PTA and MCMC’s visit stating, “Telenor Pakistan remains committed to driving digital transformation by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and fostering innovation in the ICT sector. The masterclass was attended by more than 60 industry leaders, policymakers, and academicians who discussed 5G deployment strategies, spectrum management, and advanced applications. Led by experts from the MCMC Academy, the training comprised technical sessions, panel discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities.
PTA Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Hafeez ur Rehman, highlighted the significance of 5G in economic growth and innovation. He emphasized that the workshop is part of the ongoing preparations for the launch of 5G. During the closing ceremony, the PTA Chairman presented shields to the MCMC delegation and distributed certificates to the participants.
Later, the MCMC team visited the PTA headquarters, where they were briefed on various PTA departments. The delegation also visited the NT-SOC/Data Center. PTA expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman of MCMC and his team for their support in capacity building related to 5G.
It is noteworthy that this collaboration strengthens the shared commitment of both countries toward digital development, ensuring comprehensive support for the launch of 5G. This masterclass was also an important step following the Letter of Cooperation (LoC) signed between PTA and MCMC in the presence of the Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Malaysia on October 3, 2024.
