In occupied Kashmir, police have seized hundreds of Islamic books from bookstalls and shops. These books were legally published in New Delhi and brought to Kashmir for sale.
According to details, the occupying Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir are making relentless efforts to erase the religious identity of Kashmiris.
On one hand, the so-called Kashmiri Pandits are being settled in the occupied territory, while on the other, the religious heritage of Muslims is also under attack by the occupying Indian army.
Hundreds of Islamic books have been confiscated from bookstalls and shops in occupied Kashmir. After imposing restrictions on freedom of expression, the Modi government has now started targeting scholarly and intellectual books as well.
Taking another controversial step, the Modi government conducted raids on bookstores in occupied Kashmir and seized 668 Islamic books.
The only reason for the seizure was that these books were published by the central Maktaba Islami Publishers in New Delhi, which is affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
Following the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami in 2019, now efforts are being made to eliminate its scholarly heritage as well.
Leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami stated that the confiscated books were legally published in New Delhi and had arrived in Kashmir for sale.
Jamaat-e-Islami leaders strongly condemned the seizure, calling it a violation of fundamental rights.
Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq termed the actions of the occupying Indian administration as illegal and absurd. He said that although the publication and distribution of these books were legal, Modi declared them illegal, once again proving his anti-Muslim stance.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the seizure of Islamic books by the Modi government is another clear example of its anti-Muslim ideology. He described the move as another attack on the intellectual freedom of Muslims living in Kashmir, aimed at silencing their voices.
He added that the Modi government is not only depriving Kashmiris of their right to live but is now also attacking their right to think and read.
