Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has stated that despite a continuous decline in global petroleum prices, the government is not reducing petrol prices in the country.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed these views while addressing a public Iftar gathering organized by Jamaat-e-Islami District Central at Muhammad bin Khalil Arab Park, Block D, North Nazimabad on Sunday. Following a Rs. 10 increase in the petroleum levy, it has now reached Rs. 70, which he strongly rejects. He demanded that the government immediately lower petrol prices and eliminate unjust taxes from electricity bills to provide relief to the people.
He expressed concern over the worsening situation in the country, stating that conditions are deteriorating further. He criticized the ruling elite and the state for their claims of maintaining authority, pointing out that while they claim control over everything, hundreds of people can hijack the Jaffer Express in broad daylight. The situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a clear indication of the government’s and the state’s weakness as well as the increasing disconnect between the government and the people, he lamented.
He questioned how the public could show solidarity with rulers who have come to power by stealing the nation’s mandate. He asserted that as long as governments are imposed through manipulated Form 47 results, the situation will not improve, adding Karachi’s residents are well aware that the MQM was fraudulently imposed on them through Form 47. The same drama was staged across the entire country, he added.
The Iftar gathering was also addressed by Emir Jamaat-e-Islami District Central Syed Wajih Hassan, District Secretary Sohail Zaidi, and others. Also present were Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s Naib Emir Muslim Pervez, Information Secretary Zahid Askari, North Nazimabad Town Chairman Atif Ali Khan, Vice Town Chairman Zia Jamai, Nazimabad Town Chairman Syed Muzaffar Ali, Vice Town Chairman Nauman Siddiqui, Haidery Market Management President Shahid Akhtar, and others.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman further stated that due to the incompetence and corruption of the rulers, as well as rising inflation and unemployment, middle-class families are struggling to pay their children’s school fees. It is the responsibility of the government and the state to provide affordable and quality education to the public. He highlighted that 26.2 million children across Pakistan are out of school. While the ruling class portrays itself as educated, it seeks to keep the nation’s children ignorant, he mourned.
He emphasized that it is the state’s duty to provide healthcare and ensure security. Whether it’s bandits from interior Sindh or the lawless elements in other regions, they are collectively looting the nation. Meanwhile, the ruling elite enjoys privileges but provides no relief to the people. He revealed that over the past year, Rs. 2,000 billion was paid to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for electricity that was never even generated. As summer approaches, electricity prices are expected to rise further, forcing citizens to sell their jewelry to pay their electricity bills.
He pointed out that Jamaat-e-Islami has nine town chairmen in Karachi, elected by the people. He urged them to increase revenue in their respective towns and serve the public. He also called for moral and ethical training in society, the betterment of women, and the engagement of youth through sports.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stated that Jamaat-e-Islami has been given a mandate by the people, and they aim to work alongside them in their struggle against the provincial government and mafias. Criticizing the establishment, he remarked that while it asks the people to cooperate, it simultaneously imposes bandits upon them, which is unacceptable. He reaffirmed that Karachi is Mini Pakistan, and through collective struggle and resistance, Jamaat-e-Islami and the people will remove thieves and criminals from power.
