Lack of adequately trained IT professionals, insufficient telecommunication infrastructure, wrong selection of IT systems, injudicious use of computers and unawareness in top-tier management are hurting IT growth in the corporate and financial entities of Pakistan.

IT entrepreneur and former Pakistan Software Houses Association (Pasha) chairman Salim Ghauri said while addressing s address a group of IT representatives from various corporate and financial entities of the country.

He said the financial sector was not only the leader of growth in the IT sector, but was also the largest investor globally. The cost of IT system by the corporate entities however is negligible against the return on investment, he added.

He said the IT departments of the corporate and financial entities should assess their actual need before selecting systems. “Either you acquire IT system by copying others or purchase it on the recommendations of vendors,” he pointed out.
