President given authority to remove chairman NAB in National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021

The federal government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday took back the authority of removing National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman from Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) and gave it to president in new amendment ordinance. The term of the chairman NAB will be four years and he could be removed by the president of Pakistan. The grounds for removing the chairman NAB will be the same which are applicable for removing the judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to details, National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 has been released by the Ministry of Law and Justice after approval from President Dr. Arif Alvi.
In the new draft, the cases pertaining to cheating and fraud have been again handed over to the anti-graft watchdog. There will be no relief for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The ordinance mentioned that till the installation of electronic devices, the manner of recording of evidence already in place shall be continued by using old system.
Under the National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, the accountability court judge has been given the powers to fix the surety bonds for granting bail to the accused.
It shall come into force at once and the amendments shall be deemed to have taken effect on and from the October 6, 2021, the draft further read.
The National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 has been sent to the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press, Islamabad for the publication in its next gazette.
