Anwaarul Haq Kakar sworn in as Pakistan’s 8th Caretaker Prime Minister

Anwaarul Haq Kakar was sworn-in as the Caretaker Prime Minister on Monday.
President Dr. Arif Alvi administered him the oath during the ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
Later, the Caretaker Prime Minister shook hand with President Dr. Arif Alvi, who congratulated him for assuming the office.
Anwaarul Haq Kakar is the 8th Caretaker Prime Minister of the country.
He was nominated as the Caretaker Prime Minister after political consultations between the then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the then Opposition Leader Raja Riaz Ahmed Khan.
The oath taking ceremony of the Caretaker Prime Minister was attended amongst others by former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Mir Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the Governors of the four provinces, the caretaker Chief Ministers of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Naval Chief Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, DG ISI, Lt General Nadeem Anjum and leaders of various political parties.
Anwaarul Haq Kakar hails from Qilla Saifullah area of Balochistan. Previously, he was a Senator and also worked as chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, and as a member of the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology.
He also served as the spokesperson of Balochistan government prior to his election to the Upper House. Anwarul Haq Kakar is widely regarded as a great intellectual. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Sociology and is an alumnus of the University of Balochistan.
Caretaker Prime Minister Amwaarul Haq Kakar inspected the guard of honour. National anthem was also played on the occasion.
Earlier, outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also given guard of honour. He reviewed the guard of honour as the contingents of the armed forces presented a salute to him. Anwaarul Haq Kakar bid farewell to the departing prime minister.
Meanwhile a delegation from Balochistan comprising Senator Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Khan Bugti and Mir Khalid Lango called on Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar in Islamabad on Monday.
During the meeting, the delegation felicitated Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on assuming the charge of Prime Minister and expressed good wishes.
Meanwhile, former Provincial Minister Mir Mohammad Asim Kurd Gello also met with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
Mohammad Asim Kurd Gello congratulated Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on assuming the charge of caretaker Prime Minister and expressed him best wishes.
It is worth mentioning here that Anwaarul Haq Kakar took oath of office as the 8th caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday.
He was elected as an independent senator from Balochistan province for tenure of March 2018 to March 2024. He is also one of the founding members of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and was appointed as the central spokesperson of the party in 2018. While serving as Senator, he was the chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and as a member of the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology.
Earlier, he served as spokesman for the government of Balochistan from December 2015 to January 2018.
An avid intellectual, with keen insight on the issues faced by Pakistan, particularly Balochistan province, Anwaarul Haq Kakar has been sharing his perspective at academic and policy making platforms, both nationally and internationally. These include interactions with students and faculty members at Pakistan’s top-ranking universities, closed door sessions with the country’s policy makers, briefings to the country’s political and military elite, sessions on building the Balochistan narrative with the diplomatic corps based in Islamabad, as well as a significant number of nationally televised political talk shows.
Born in 1971, he hails from Muslim Bagh, Killa Saifullah district of Balochistan. Anwaarul Haq Kakar holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Balochistan. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Security Workshop from the National Defence University, Islamabad. He is also Patron-in-Chief of the Voice of Balochistan, an independent perception building initiative he masterminded. Anwaarul Haq Kakar is fluent in English, Urdu, Persian, Pashto, Balochi and Brahvi.
