Supreme Court orders high court to issue verdict of case against fixing of sugar prices by federal govt within 30 days

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the high court to issue verdict of the case against fixing of sugar prices by the federal government within 30 days.
Hearing of the case against fixing of sugar prices by the federal government was conducted on Tuesday in the Supreme Court by a three-member bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan and comprising Justice Mandokhail and Justice Shahid Waheed.
The court ordered the high court to conduct hearing of the case on daily basis whereas the matter has been fixed for September 20 in the high court. During hearing of the case, Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that case is against the provisional order of the high court wherein final decision has not been announced.
Lawyer for sugar mills, former attorney general Shehzad Ata Elahi said that the case has been fixed for September 20. Additional Attorney General Chaudhry Aamir Rehman said that the Supreme Court has ordered sugar mills to submit the record of difference of prices in the court while fixing of prices had been challenged on behalf of the federal government. He argued that the High Court has also cancelled the price list fixed by the provincial government. The price was Rs 98 per kg but now sugar mills were selling sugar at a price of Rs 200. The court ordered to submit the record of difference of prices in the registrar office.
Addressing additional attorney general, Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that why they were in hurry as they were not going to transport the mills anywhere. The high court would issue the verdict after conducting hearing in this regard. Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman said that recovery would become difficult after passage of the time. Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that high court would conduct hearing of the case from September 20 and ordered that hearing in the case must be conducted on daily basis and no unnecessary adjournment will be given. The apex court directed the high court to decide the matter in accordance with the law within 30 days.
