President of PML-N hosts dinner for political leaders: Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto, and Fazlur Rehman meet at Nawaz Sharif’s residence to discuss the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment

President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman arrived at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra to discuss the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment. Zardari and Bilawal, accompanied by a PPP delegation, attended a dinner hosted by Nawaz Sharif. The PPP delegation included Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider, Syed Naveed Qamar, Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab, and Member of Sindh Assembly Jameel Soomro.

Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, along with his delegation, arrived at Jati Umra for the dinner. Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz welcomed him. According to a statement by PML-N’s Central Information Secretary, Maryam Aurangzeb, Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, greeted Fazlur Rehman upon his arrival. Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also part of the welcoming group. Fazlur Rehman was accompanied by Senator Kamran Murtaza.

A consultative meeting was held at Jati Umra to discuss the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment between the PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman were also present. Sources indicate that the PML-N leadership took Maulana Fazlur Rehman into confidence on the constitutional amendment, while the JUI-F chief shared his party’s prepared constitutional draft. It is expected that the three parties will reach a consensus on a joint draft. The PPP and JUI-F have already agreed on the constitutional draft, and the 26th Constitutional Amendment will be presented in the National Assembly.

Cabinet meeting today to approve the 26th Constitutional Amendment

The federal cabinet meeting has been convened today (Thursday) to approve the 26th Constitutional Amendment. According to media reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called the cabinet meeting at 1:30 PM. The meeting will be held at the Parliament House, where the amendment will be approved. A special parliamentary committee will hold an in-camera meeting at 11:30 AM to finalize the draft of the amendment.

PTI announces resistance against the proposed constitutional amendment and countrywide protest on October 18

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a strong opposition to the constitutional amendment and a nationwide protest on October 18. Following a political committee meeting, PTI declared that it would resist the government’s plan to amend the Constitution and condemned the treatment of its founder and chairman, Imran Khan. PTI also demanded access to Imran Khan, who is imprisoned at Adiala Jail, for party leaders, lawyers, and his family members.

The PTI’s statement called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers at district headquarters and appealed to all segments of society to join in defense of the Constitution. PTI also emphasized its commitment to blocking the amendment in both houses of Parliament and demanded the immediate release of all detained party leaders, including Imran Khan’s sisters.
