A special parliamentary committee has been formed to appoint a new Chief Justice
According to ARY News, the special parliamentary committee for the appointment of the new Chief Justice consists of 12 members, including Senator Azam Nazir Tarr, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaista Parvez.
PPP’s Farooq H. Naik, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Naveed Qamar are also part of the parliamentary committee.
PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar, Barrister Gohar and Sahibzada Hamid Raza are included in the parliamentary committee, JUI(F)’s Kamran Murtaza, MQM’s Rana Ansar are also part of the committee.
It should be noted that the first meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee will be held today at 4 pm in the Parliament House. Three names have been requested from the Ministry of Law for the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
It should be noted that the 12-member special parliamentary committee will select the Chief Justice of Pakistan from the panel of judges. 3 days before the retirement of the current Chief Justice, the Speaker will send the panel of 3 senior judges to the National Assembly and the Speaker will send the panel of judges to the committee for the appointment of the Chief Justice.
Earlier, the formula of proportional representation of parliamentary parties in the special committee was also prepared according to which a political party will be allotted one seat in the special committee out of 39 members of the assembly. Political parties will get one seat out of 21 members in the Senate.
Under the proposed formula, PML-N has got 4 seats in the special committee, in which three members of the assembly and one from the senate.
People’s Party got 3 seats in the Special Committee, 2 seats from the National Assembly and one seat from the Senate. 2 while PTI got one seat from Senate.
MQM and JUI-F also got one seat each in the special committee, MQM got one seat in the National Assembly and JUI got one seat in the special committee from the Senate, but JUI got one seat in the special committee of the government. Got one seat from quota.
A special parliamentary committee will be constituted under sub-clauses 1 and 2 of clause 3A of Article 175A.
