Biden Administration Approves Major Defense Equipment Sale to India

The United States has approved the potential sale of $1.17 billion worth of Seahawk multi-mission helicopter equipment to India. According to a private TV report, the Pentagon announced on Monday that the U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of equipment and related materials for MH-60R helicopters to India, estimated at a cost of $1.17 billion. The Pentagon added that the primary agreement will be with the arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin. On Monday, the Biden administration informed the U.S. Congress about the decision. According to Indian media reports, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that this sale would enhance India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities and improve its ability to address future threats. It is notable that this approval for the sale of major defense equipment to India comes just a few weeks before the completion of the Biden administration’s four-year term. The newly elected President, Donald Trump, will take the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency’s notification, India has requested to purchase 30 Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS-JTRS) from the U.S.
