PTA Blocks Over 5.8 Million Inactive SIMs Nationwide

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed that over 5.8 million inactive SIM cards have been blocked across the country. According to PTA, a crackdown was conducted against illegal SIMs during the fiscal year 2023-24, and as part of data cleansing measures, inactive SIM cards were blocked or recycled. Additionally, PTA took action against fraudsters targeting mobile phone users, blocking 5,294 mobile numbers involved in fraud over the course of a year. A total of 4,507 IMEI numbers linked to fraud were also blocked. In the previous fiscal year, 113 individuals’ CNICs were blocked for fraud-related activities, and PTA issued warnings to 19,730 mobile numbers over the span of a year.
