Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Laghari, met with Martin Raiser, Vice President of the World Bank for South Asia, in Islamabad. The discussion focused on increasing cooperation between the Power Division and the World Bank. During the meeting, Minister Laghari invited the World Bank to invest in installing smart meters. He

mentioned that the electricity demand had increased by 7% due to the electricity relief package. He emphasized that smart metering would ensure transparency and eliminate unfair load management practices. The installation of smart meters at both domestic and grid levels has shown positive results. Minister Laghari also mentioned that distribution companies would soon be on the list for privatization and that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) would no longer be authorized to enter into any new agreements. The World Bank’s Regional Vice President praised the reforms in the Power Division and agreed to enhance cooperation and technical discussions between the Power Division and the World Bank.
