Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) is currently engaged in finalizing the draft of Telecommunications Policy 2014, which is expected to be launched in the third week of July 2014 as the ministry has constituted a group to finalize it.
In this regard, IT Ministry has constituted a group, comprising officials of the ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Frequency Allocation Board to finalize the draft till the third week of July 2014. Similarly, formal workshops are planned with stakeholders in August 2014 to finalize the draft.
The Minister of State for IT Mrs. Anusha Rahman on Saturday chaired a meeting to discuss and review the preparation being made to launch the Telecommunications Policy 2014.
During the course of this meeting, international consultant hired for “Reviewing and integrating current Telecommunications Policies” has briefed the meeting about key findings and policy suggestions about various aspects of telecommunication sector. The meeting has extensively discussed expected provisions of the new policy regarding interconnection, VoIP, Licensing Framework, Broadband services and Public Wi-Fi etc.
Anusha Rahman advised to focus on promoting latest trends and services while formulating the policy.
