Pakistan’s delegation, headed by Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, Minister of State for Information Technology, comprising of representatives of Ministry of Information Technology, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently visiting Busan, Republic of Korea, to contest for Pakistan’s candidature for International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council Elections.
ITU is a United Nations’ specialized agency for telecommunication, which has been established to standardize and regulate international radio and telecommunications.Pakistan has been a member country of ITU since 26th August 1947 and has actively participated ever since in the working of the Union and decision making on the technical and strategic matters of ITU.The elections for the next tenure (2015 – 2018) of the ITU Council are due to take place on 27th October, 2014, during the forthcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, scheduled to be held from 20thOctober – 7thNovember, 2014, in Busan, Republic of Korea.
